Gaps and lack of appreciation for culture nowadays is the basis of the design of this community center. One society tends to have a paradigm that its culture is superior to the other cultures. In reality, every culture has its own uniqueness and positive values that can be learned. The location of this project is Kuta, Bali, which is the main tourist destination in Indonesia with the intensity of both local and foreign tourists as much as twelve million per year and continues to increase. The interaction between local and foreign tourists is a supporting aspect for the design intentions, which is to strengthen the relationship between countries through visitors' interactions with each other, and invites visitors to re-appreciate and develop the cultures. This facility will be a means of education and recreation, and participating in promoting the sophisticated island of Bali as one of tourist destinations in Indonesia.
In this facility, culture is defined by four aspects of art: painting, music, dance, and language. There are pavilions representing each country, which will embody cultural activities. Meanwhile, the countries which will represent their cultures are selected from the intensity of the visits and the number of of tourists from certain countries from year 2009 to 2015 (Source: Bali Government Tourism Office). Based on the data obtained, the countries with the most visits are: Australia, China, Japan, America, Germany, and France. Therefore there are six pavilions representing six countries and their cultures, with one additional Bali pavilion as the host country. The zoning and grouping of the pavilions are, through extensive research, based on similarity of background, history, or ethnicity of the countries.
The unique characters of the six countries are remain to be highlighted, but a binding element must be brought up to show equality and unity among these countries. This binding element is applied to the form of pavilions, which is a box. To highlight the unique characters of each country, the philosophy and the "way of life" of each culture are applied and adjusted to each country pavilion.
